Everyone wants a piece of Atlanta

Image
I know It’s Thursday when you’re finally reading this but better late than never. Let’s get down to it. I feel there was a theme. And maybe there was, maybe there wasn’t. But I feel the talk of the town in the past week or so has been that Atlanta is a better track to race on than Daytona. Drivers were more excited about racing at Atlanta than Daytona. Last week I talked about how there was always going to be one word I would use to describe Sunday’s race. I think that word needs to be “flipped”. You don’t need to go back, you read that right. The word is. FLIPPED. Not only was this race extremely exciting and it kept you on your toes, but it felt like a very different style race to Daytona. A couple months ago I was at a thrift shop that has an entire section just for NASCAR memorabilia. I’m actually not allowed to go in there alone without Emily because I will walk out with every item that is there. I found this folding map of NASCAR Cup Series races from 2002. Someone must hav...

The 67th Daytona 500 - Post Race Overview

Image
What a race... This really is the Super Bowl of NASCAR. I think moving forward for the rest of the season I’m going to use one word to define a race when I’m doing my post-race overview. For the 67th Daytona 500, I think the word that I’m going to use to describe that race was Gnarly. I almost chose the word painful. It was a really painful race. Truthfully, it was a little painful to watch. All this week was painful. This was a painful week to be a NASCAR fan, to be involved in NASCAR, to be a NASCAR team owner, to be on a NASCAR team, to be a driver, reporter, broadcaster, journalist… on and on and on. Was this past week entertaining? Absolutely. No doubt about that. My eyes were glued to the racetrack for pretty much the entire week. If I wasn’t doing something related to NASCAR I was thinking about NASCAR. Sunday night when I was sitting at dinner, after the race was over, I was sitting there thinking about the race that had just finished. I know this sounds a little negative...

All eyes on the 40

Image
Before we start the 67th Daytona 500 today, I want to take some time and talk about this year’s speed week and specifically the 40 Chevrolet. We had qualifying, we had numerous sets of practice over 4 days, we had the Daytona duels race for the Cup Series cars, we had media day, we had Craftsman Truck Series race, we had Xfinity series race... we really had a lot going on this week for speed week at Daytona International Speedway. I’m pretty sure some of the haulers got there last Friday and then the rest Monday. Drivers and teams got to Daytona as early as Monday. It was A LOT in one week. Hey, I get why it’s called Speed Week. The Daytona 500 is our Super Bowl for this sport. But I think the topic of conversation has been that all eyes are on Junior Motorsports number 40 Chevrolet. I think this is really special for NASCAR, for old NASCAR fans from the 90’s and 00’s, Dale Earnhardt Senior fans, the cult-like following of Dale Earnhardt Junior fans, Junior Motorsports and owners...

Welcome!

Welcome!   For those who don't know me, my name is Mitch, I'm 30 years old and this is my NASCAR blog! As I'm sure you've gathered, I'm a  HUGE  NASCAR fan. With a strong background in writing and public speaking I decided to find somewhere where I'm able to write NASCAR articles. Not only do I see myself as a fan, but I see myself as a part of this sport. There's a story that needs to be told week to week and I'm going to do my best to do so. There are hundreds of NASCAR Youtubers out there that make their content for everyone to watch and listen to, but not enough motorsports journalists. So why not me? I'm doing this purely for self-enjoyment and because many people have enjoyed all of my writing, content, and news I provided via Instagram in the 2024 Cup Series season. I've had countless friends who know NOTHING about NASCAR tell me that they always look forward to my NASCAR 'post-race overview' and all my NASCAR content. On hand, I...
